Creating Typographic Logo
Every person who has ever had to create a logo for the business would agree that designing an effective and memorable logo is one of the most demanding tasks. People often try to make designs too unusual but sometimes getting down to the bare essentials may help to create a truly eye-catching logo. And the typographic logo is the first thing that comes to our mind when we think about something simple but very special.
Typographic logos are really easy to create and sometimes they have a stronger effect on consumers than traditional symbolic logos. A wise choice of type will definitely make your logo more prominent, inspiring and maybe timeless 😉 While making a typographic logo, you may play with size, color, alignment etc., but right now we want to introduce you one thing which you have to know for the successful outcome; and that is the difference between a serif and sans-serif fonts.
Serifs are the small lines tailing from the edges of letters and symbols, separated into different units for a typewriter (Times New Roman font). Sans-serif is a typeface that doesn’t have the small projecting features called “serifs” at the end of strokes (Arial font). Please remember: serif fonts are easier to read in printed books while sans-serif fonts are better on the web❗
Let’s now have a look at some awesome typographic logos!
I think we are ready for making our own cool design 😃
First of all, we need to create a background for your design. Choose a Rectangle shape and fill the workspace with it, then fill the shape with an appropriate color which you can find in the Background section in the right toolbar.
To create the text for your typographic logo, select the Text tool and then click and drag your mouse in the workspace until you set the box to the desired size. In such a way you will be able to create the bounded text. It is comfortable because this box sets the boundaries for the text inside, and it can be edited later by clicking and dragging the resizing control handles.
In order to create a good typographic logo, it is important to pay a lot of attention to editing text. Choose the font, size, and color that will be suitable for your design. All these features and much more (Border, Shadow, Opacity) you can find in the right toolbar. Moreover, to make our text curved we create separate boxes for each word. Then we use the option of rotating the text. To rotate your selection (a box), hover just outside a control point until the rotating handle appears, then click and drag.
To decorate the text, we use the Pen tool for creating small lines on the sides of it. Select the Pen tool and click on your workspace to start drawing a path; each time you click, you’ll add another point to your vector path. To stop adding new points, press the ESC or ⏎ ENTER key. As an alternative to lines, you may use dots which you can create manually or with the help of the Ellipse shape which you may find in the left toolbar.
When your design is finished and ready to be exported, use the Export button. If you want to have a transparent background, export your file to PNG or SVG. But mind, please, that the latter format has the highest resolution ☝
That’s what we’ve got!
You now see how easily the design may be created in Vectr 😉 Don’t hesitate to ask us if you have any questions on this tutorial!
