Version 0.18: Top 10 Essential Updates
It’s that time again – our bi-weekly update time! Just when you thought we were trying to bypass it…
We survived through two weeks of blood, sweat, and tears to proudly present the updates in this Vectr version. There were 5 new features and functions in Version 0.17. In this update, many functions and features have been improved to be faster, simpler, and more intuitive. You’ll barely notice the changes we’ve made, and that’s the whole point! They say love is in the details, and our gifts of love can be found in our small yet powerful improvements – you’re welcome. In order to use Vectr to its fullest, read up on the 10 essential updates we’ve made this time around.
1. Name your layers.
We have big plans for layers, and it’s coming together! Working on a design with numerous layers can be overwhelming when they’re unlabeled. To help you better identify and track your layers, you can rename them! Click on the name of the layer and type in whatever you want – it can be anything.
2. Easier social sharing.
Sharing is caring! After all the time and effort spent on your designs, you should share it with the world. Easily share your work with others through the share button on the top right of the editor:
When you click on the icon, two tabs will appear: one for sharing your design URL and another for sharing your design via social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
3. Rotate multiple control points.
Editing paths just got a whole lot faster! In this version, you can rotate multiple control points at once. Double click to begin editing a path. There are two ways to select more than one control point: (1) click and drag over your selections or (2) hold
shift while selecting.
4. Seamless path editing.
One issue that caused some frustrations and hindered design flow was the need to double click on an object for every single edit you wanted to make. Now, you can continuously edit an object until you hit the enter key or click outside of the object.
5. Resize text along with other objects.
It was a pain resizing objects and text separately, but that pain is nothing but a distant memory now. Text can be resized with other objects – give it a go!
6. Preview background images while scaling.
You don’t have to guesstimate while resizing background images anymore. While resizing a background image, a preview image will show up so you can see exactly how an image will appear in your design.
7. Fixed background image editing issue.
An issue that often occurred with background images were that they would be displaced, move, or revert back to its original position before edits were made if you navigated away from the page. Happy to announce that this issue has been fixed. Once your edits are made, they won’t be undone unless you want them to be.
8. Faster filters UI.
When you select different objects in the board, you’ll no longer notice any lag in the filters section under the Selection tab. You probably never noticed the lag, but we did. Details, right?
9. Copy user’s files to your dashboard.
Ok, this feature doesn’t technically count as an update in this version. It was actually shipped in our last update, but was overlooked in the blog. If you have the url for another user’s design file, a notification at the bottom of the workspace will appear asking if you’d like to copy the file. Click on the link and the file will be copied into your dashboard!
10. More than 10 bug fixes.
As always, our focus revolves around performance optimization. That’s we’ve fixed more than 10 bugs this time around.
Well, that’s the bulk of our updates in this version. Check out the User Guide to learn how to use Vectr to its fullest. There are exciting things heading our way soon – find out what’s in store in our roadmap! Remember, you can contact us anytime. Until next time, stay classy.
